Oil Study – Shad

Finished this study up this weekend. Spent a little more time getting a good linear placement on this one so the drawing is a little more accurate.

I also got a cut sheet of Dibond this weekend. Dibond is a aluminum composite material (what they use to make street signs out of). Apparently it’s the new support of choice for modern painters. I started prepping a couple of the smaller panels and I’m excited to get started on a more finished portrait soon.

Oil Study

I’ve started a new series of portraits. This is a quick oil study on paper. There’s some drawing issues that I didn’t resolve, but this was more for my own purposes. I’m trying to streamline and optimize my studio process and find out which steps are requisite and have the highest yield.

Overall I’m pretty happy with how solid and volumetric the modeling turned out — makes me wish I’d spent a little more time getting a proper linear placement before I jumped into the chromatic layers.
