Getting Close

Getting very close with this one. Not sure I’m ready to call it yet, I want to see how it looks when the paint drys this week and I can look at it again with fresh eyes this weekend. But it’s nearly there.

Portrait of Theo - work in progress - oil on ACM panel, 18"x24"

I thought I had smoothed out the sharp edge in brow ridge transition into the side of the nose on the shadow side of the face but it’s looking like the dark hues sunk in a bit again and it’s looking too sharp once more. Same with the hair, when it was wet the contrast dark patches looked really good but they seem to have sunk in again. I know they’ll come out of hiding again once I get to varnish it, but that’s at least six months away at this point.

I worked a lot on the background to smooth out the rings in the background but it’s still a bit wonky in places.

The contrast on the hands may have gone a bit too far as well, they’re looking a little too sharp and a little too chromatic to me in this image.

Really getting quite close to finishing this one off though.
