Work in Progress

Continuing in on the Rainbow Obsidian D20 portrait.

Rainbow Obsidian D20 - work in progress

A lot of good progress made. Still something that I think I can improve with another pass. The 2 and 10 faces don’t have enough contrast between the chromatic number and the value of the obsidian die, this is somewhat true from the source image I’m working from as well. But it’s not very satisfying, I need to push it a bit to make them stand out a bit more.

The texture of the obsidian stone is starting to come through, hopefully with another pass of scumbling paint layers over I can pull them out even more.

Finally, I’m not entirely happy with the background. I feel like it’s a bit too chromatic and competing with the subject. I may glaze that down a bit and shift the color towards a more tertiary hue to help it sit down. Sometimes that process works out really well… I think the glaze I did on the Jade D20 portrait worked well… but sometimes it just gets muddy an ugly.
